🛡️ Personal Safety in Leeds

It’s important to feel safe when you are walking in Leeds or your area.  Here are some easy tips to help you:

🌃 When You Go Out

  • ❌ Try not to walk alone at night
  • ✅ Stay in bright, busy places
  • 🍷 On a night out:
    • Don’t take drinks from strangers
    • Don’t leave your drink alone
    • 🎒 Keep your bag closed and close to you
    • 🧠 If someone feels wrong, trust your feelings and stay away

🏠 Protect Your Home from Theft

Thieves look for easy chances. These tips can help you stay safe:

  • ❌ Don’t leave keys 🔑, money 💰, phone 📱 or laptop 💻 where people can see them

  • 🚨 Use your burglar alarm when you go out or go to sleep
  • 🧾 Shred (cut up) papers like bills and bank letters before putting them in the bin
  • 🧱 If you rent and something is broken (like a window or lock), tell your landlord
  • 💡 Use a lamp timer when you’re not home — you can buy one at shops like Wilko or Argos

 🔊 Noise

Be kind to your neighbours! Some noise is OK, but very loud noise between 11pm and 7am is a problem. Report Daytime Noise (8am–5pm)

👉 Use the online form: Leeds Council Noise Complaints

You may be asked to keep a noise diary. If there’s enough proof, the council may take legal action.  Report Night-Time Noise (5pm–3:30am)

📞 Call the out of hours team: 0113 376 0337

They will:

  • Talk to you
  • Try to visit the noisy place
  • Ask the people to stop (if safe)

They can’t visit every complaint. They are more likely to come if:

  • It’s in a residential area
  • Many people complain
