Adult care homes 🏡
Most people get support to stay at home because it’s easier and cheaper. But if you need more help, there are different places to live:
- Independent living with support: Your own home with some help available.
- Sheltered or extra care housing: Your own flat plus extra services if needed.
- Care homes: A place where many people live and get care.
There are two types of care homes:
- Residential care homes: Help with daily care like meals and washing. Doctors visit you there.
- Nursing homes: Like residential homes, but they have nurses on site too.
Some homes are for special needs like dementia care.
Choosing a care home? 🤔
Think about:
- How many and how kind the staff are
- What the rooms and facilities are like
- What activities you can do there
- How much independence you will have
- The cost and if you can get help paying
For advice, call Adult Social Care: 0113 222 4401 (Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm)
You can check care home quality on the Care Quality Commission (CQC) website.
