📝 Homelessness Assessment
When you talk to Housing Options:
- Ask for a Homelessness Assessment
- If you’re a refugee, get help from a Refugee Resettlement worker
- They will ask:
- Who lives with you (e.g., partner, children)
- What kind of home you need (size, location, price)
- Any special needs you have
- You’ll get a personal housing plan
👉 You can ask for an interpreter when you visit Housing Options. They can connect to an interpreter right away.
⏳ How Long You’ll Get Help
- Up to 8 weeks if your home is in danger
- Another 8 weeks if you become homeless during that time
- You may stay in temporary housing while they decide
🛏 Emergency or Longer-Term Housing
If Housing Options decides you’re homeless and in priority need, they may give you emergency accommodation. After 8 weeks, they will check if you also qualify for longer-term housing. You must:
- Be in a priority need group
- Be homeless through no fault of your own
If you qualify, you may stay in temporary housing until something suitable is available.
💡 Priority Need Examples
You have priority need if:
- You are pregnant
- You care for children or are a vulnerable adult (e.g., with health issues)
- You are homeless through emergency (like a fire)
